In addition to my training and workshop commitments, I conduct a private practice in Burleigh

Heads, a suburb at the southern end of the Gold Coast, QLD, Australia.

I am also available for Telehealth consultations via Zoom.

I have been practising psychotherapy as a clinical psychologist for over 30 years, both in private practice and in hospital settings.

For 11 years, I was the senior clinical psychologist at an 80-bed private psychiatric hospital in Melbourne. There, I was the director of psychotherapy programs for the treatment of depression, anxiety, personality disorders, eating disorders, psychosis, self-harm and PTSD.

I conducted an internationally accredited training program in ISTDP for mental health professionals in both Australia and New Zealand between 2010 and 2023, with over 100 mental health professionals completing training in ISTDP with me. I have published on the theory, practice and effectiveness of ISTDP in international, peer-reviewed journals. Additionally, I have presented over 50 ISTDP training workshops (separate from my training programs) to mental health professionals in Australia, New Zealand, USA, Sweden, and Canada.

Over the last five years, I have developed a short-term dynamic psychotherapy called Affect-State Therapy (AST). It is underpinned by attachment theory, current understandings of neuropsychology, and how change occurs in psychotherapy. I now practice AST and teach it in my psychotherapy training program.

I now practice Affect State Therapy (AST). A description of AST and how it might be relevant for you is available here.

Initial Evaluation Session

The first session with me is an extended session of 2 hours duration. This initial, extended session enables us to understand all aspects of your problems quickly, determine whether my treatment approach is appropriate for the treatment of your problems, and begin to progress towards resolving these problems. Typically, by the end of the Initial Evaluation Session, I can give an accurate estimate of how many sessions will be required to resolve your problems.

Psychotherapy Sessions

If the Initial Evaluation Session indicates that we are likely to be able to be successful in working together, regular sessions, of 50 minutes duration, typically fortnightly, can be organized.
